Creating a Testimonial Request

A testimonial request gives you a link that customers, employees, or partners can use to record a short video. You choose how long the link stays open, how many recordings to collect, and what the contributor sees.

Create a request

  1. Open the Media Library.
  2. Under Video Studio, select Testimonials.
  3. Click New Request.
  4. Enter a Testimonial name.
  5. Set the End date, Max Recordings, and Max Video Length.
  6. Optional: add a logo and edit the Welcome, Recording, and Thank you steps.
  7. Check the preview, then click Save.

Oktopost creates the request and shows Testimonial request saved. The Invite Contributors window opens so you can send the link. You can close that window and invite people later.

Anyone in the account who has the Media Library Create permission can open testimonials created by other users.

Request settings

Setting Default What to enter
Testimonial name Empty Required. Up to 50 characters. This is the name you see in Oktopost
End date One month from today Required. The link stops accepting recordings after this date
Max Recordings 10 Required. Choose from 1 to 20 recordings
Max Video Length 5 minutes Required. Enter a whole number from 1 to 15. A decimal shows "Set maximum length from 1 to 15 minutes."
Logo None Optional. SVG, PNG, or JPEG. The logo appears on the recording link. File rules match Custom Branding Settings

Use Reset to remove a logo after you upload one.

Customize the contributor page

The request has three steps. Each step has a title. The description, prompt, and thank-you message are optional.

Welcome

The default title is "We'd love to hear from you." The default description is "Add your name and email, then record a short video."

Require consent checkbox is selected by default. Contributors must check it before they can continue. The default consent text is:

I am voluntarily submitting this video. I agree that {account name} may use, reproduce, and share it, including my name, image, and voice, for marketing, promotional, and business purposes, in any format and medium, without compensation.

You can edit that text. Clear Require consent checkbox to hide the consent box. Contributors are not asked to agree when it is hidden.

The contributor's name and email are always required. You cannot remove those fields.

Recording

The default title is "Record your video." The default prompt asks the contributor to:

  1. Introduce yourself and your role.
  2. Describe a challenge and how {account name} helped.
  3. Share the result.

Clear the prompt if you do not want it on the page or in the invitation email.

Thank you

The default title is "Thank you for your video." The default message is "Your video was submitted. You can close this page."

Preview the link

The preview shows the live recording page. Switch among Welcome, Recording, and Thank you. The preview updates as you edit the steps. You cannot type into the preview or record a video from it.

Invite contributors

Invite Contributors and Copy Invite Link are available only while the request is Collecting and still has room for recordings.

  1. Click Invite Contributors.
  2. Enter one or more email addresses, separated by commas. Press Enter to add each address.
  3. Click Send, or click Copy Invite Link and share the link yourself.

You can send up to 20 addresses at a time. Send stays unavailable until at least one valid address is entered. An invalid address is not added, and Oktopost shows "Email format is not valid."

After a successful send, Oktopost shows Invitation sent for one person, or the number of invitations sent for more than one. Copy Invite Link shows Link copied.

The invitation says that you would like to hear about their experience, and that they do not need an account or a download. It includes your recording prompt when you entered one. The button in the email is Record your testimonial.

For what the contributor sees after opening the link, see Recording a Testimonial.

Find a request

On Testimonials, requests are listed with the newest first. Search by testimonial name. Filter by status, or by whether the request has recordings.

Each request shows its name, how many recordings have been submitted out of the maximum, and its status. For example, 4/10.

Status Meaning
Collecting The link is open and the recording limit has not been reached
Full The request has reached its recording limit and does not accept new recordings. If you delete a recording before the end date, and you have not stopped collection, the status returns to Collecting
Expired The end date has passed. The link does not accept new recordings. A request you already stopped stays Stopped instead of changing to Expired
Stopped You stopped collection. The link does not accept new recordings

Open a request to see its recordings. You can search those recordings by the contributor's name or email.

Edit, stop, or delete a request

Open the more-options menu on the request.

  • Edit details opens the same settings, with the current values filled in
  • Stop collecting closes the link. Existing recordings stay on the request, and copies already added to a project stay in that project
  • Resume collecting replaces Stop collecting on a stopped or expired request
  • Delete permanently deletes the invite link and the recordings on the request

When you resume a stopped request and the end date is still ahead, Oktopost keeps that end date. When you resume an expired request, or a stopped request whose end date has already passed, Oktopost starts the original duration again from today. A request that was set for one month gets a new end date one month from the day you resume.

Delete removes the invite link and the recordings stored on the request. Recordings already added to a Video Studio project or the Media Library stay where you added them.

To use a recording in a project or the Media Library, see Adding Testimonial Recordings.
