Link Shortening FAQ

Oktopost shortens URLs when a post is sent to a social network, not while you compose the message in the Post Editor. This keeps drafts readable and avoids human error during review.

Why links look unchanged in the Post Editor

Oktopost converts URLs to okt.to links (or your branded short URL when configured) at publish time. The character counter in the Post Editor already accounts for the shortened URL length.

Why a published link was not shortened

If a link published without shortening, check the following:

  1. Missing http:// or https:// prefix. Oktopost only shortens full, valid URLs. If the prefix is omitted, social networks may still make the link clickable, but Oktopost will not track clicks on that link.
  2. Link shortening is disabled. Go to Setup → Tracking → Short Link. If Select Domain is set to No link shortening, URLs are published as entered and click tracking through Oktopost is disabled for those links.

With link shortening disabled, link clicks and conversions are not tracked through Oktopost.
